And that’s why you need to make a choice for the best monitor available. Now, since gaming monitors receive more attention in this tech industry, for this review we went with a casual home/office monitor to change the tables a bit. Today we break down the Sceptre E E248W-1920R 24 Ultra Thin LED Monitor | Amazon; a 24-inch screen for both casual and tech-savvy users. It offers Full HD, sharp.

Sceptre E248W-1920R Review

  • Ample sized screen for working – 24 inches
  • Great simple design
  • Slim bezel
  • Full HD IPS enabled display
  • Low affordable price
  • Decent port system-VGA & HDMI
  • Windows 10 Home

  • Lacks height adjustment
  • Notable bleed on the edges

Sceptre monitors have brought the cheap right to your doorstep. And that’s without compromising on quality and cutting corners which we really appreciate. The Sceptre E248W-1920R| Amazon makes its name as a home/office monitor set to enable you to enjoy your favorite movies, sports, and video gaming.

You get the very best pixel clarity on the Full HD display, precision in control and reduced eye fatigue that’s common when watching for extended periods of time. The system works with Windows 10 Home, 5ms response time, 60Hz refresh rate and has a decent amount of ports including HDMI and VGA. And as a result, the monitor can handle a triple setup.

The highlight for this Sceptre is that it comes with a VESA mounting unlike most of the monitors at this price point.

The Sceptre E E248W-1920R owes its goods looks and charm to an almost bezel-free, glossy silver cabinet. It stands tall supported by a matching sturdy base at the bottom. The arm allows for tilt adjustment (Backward: 20˚, Forward: 5˚) but unfortunately no height, pivot or swivel adjustments. But for its budget price, we won’t complain. Moving on, the screen on this 24-inch monitor is Full HD. Meaning, you get to enjoy watching your favorite movies on 1920 x 1080 resolutions. The screen also flaunts an IPS panel so I won’t have to worry about the viewing angles.

That aside, it weighs (5.7 lbs) lighter and of course much better compared to some of its competition. The best selling HP Pavilion 22cwa 21.5-inch IPS LED Backlit Monitor weighs 6.6 lbs while the socially accepted Acer R240HY bidx 23.8-Inch IPS Monitor comes close at 6.4 lbs. Both these monitors are considerably heavier than our unit, but the Sceptre 8A Series 24-Inch Screen LED-lit Monitor loses the belt contest thanks to its whopping 8.37 lbs. In terms of display and bezel size, our unit comes right in the middle of the HP Pavilion 22wa and the Acer R24oHY bidx monitor. The latter wins the prize for the slimmest bezel and would be most suitable for a seamless triple monitor setup. Even so, our Sceptre E E248W’s 9mm bezel is still slim and looks sleek nonetheless. The bottom bezel is slightly thicker at 11mm and is home to the Sceptre logo.

There aren’t as many ports on this Sceptre monitor, but the family of ports is found at the rear. There are two ports; HDMI and VGA connectors, a 3.5 mm Mini-jack audio in jack for VGA and finally a 3.4mm Mini-Jack Audio Out. While we’re still at the rear the back side comes with two holes for VESA mounting and beautiful metal grey finish. The rest of the monitor buttons such as volume rocker and on and off button are located along the bottom edge of the strip panel.

The Sceptre E E240-1920R’s out of the box color accuracy is good. It’s not exactly the best compared to other premium monitors but its spot on. While watching scenes from Game of Thrones on Blu-ray, the screen produced some rich, well-saturated colors. Viewing angles performance was remarkable as Sceptre promises as far as 178 degrees on both vertical and horizontal view.

The panel’s 5 millisecond (gray-to-gray) response does a remarkable job of displaying fast-moving images. It eliminates the chance of having ghosting and blurring in gaming and should work perfectly for some triple-A games, for instance, Minecraft, Grand Theft Auto, and others.

Using this monitor for extensive periods won’t burn a hole in your wallet. It consumes a meager 22 watts while on power ON mode and nothing more than 0.5 watts while on Standby. The Acer R240HY consumes 19 watts while the Viewsonic XG2401 24 watts meaning our unit is a moderate power consumer. The Sceptre screen brightness is a fixed 230 cd/m2.

Note: What you get right out of the box: Monitor Display x 1, Base x 1, Base Screws x 1, User Manual x 1 and an AC Adapter x 1 (12V/2.5A).

The Sceptre E E248W-1920R monitor is a 24 inch midrange monitor that uses In-Plane Switching (IPS) panel so you get impressive viewing angles. Additionally, you also get good color accuracy, a respectable gray-to-gray scale, decent 60Hz refresh rate and 5ms response time to top it off. It comes with a thin bezel which gives off a thin sleek modern look.

For us though, the Acer R24oHY bidx monitor makes a more stunning appeal on that front. Even so, our unit boasts of great connectivity options including VGA and HDMI ports, great Full HD display (1920 x 1080p) and support for VESA mounting (two holes available).

Overall, even though it doesn’t make the cut as our Editor’s Choice for midrange monitors, the Sceptre E E248W-1920R monitor is a great choice. It costs just right to earn our recommendation as a home/office monitor best for multimedia and day-to-day office work.
