Sceptre C325W-1920R Review

The Sceptre brand may not be as well know as brands like Dell and HP which have been around for ages. Sceptre, while a relatively obscure brand, has been in the market for over 30 years.  We can attest from the reviews we have done so far that most of their products have been just as good as others in the market, and more often than not, cheaper. The Sceptre C325W-1920R is no different. It features nearly all that can be expected of a 32 Inch monitor and some, yet managing stay $20 – $30 below competition. Read the Sceptre C325W-1920R Review to find out more.

  • Thin metallic bezel
  • Sturdy metallic stand
  • Curved, thus more immersive than flat monitors
  • Cheaper than competition
  • VESA mount holes present
  • Bright screen
  • Very light – 12.1lbs

Cons

  • Lacks dynamic sync capabilities
  • Stand offers only tilt motion freedom (25 degrees)

Verdict

Fitting 1920 x 1080p pixels in a 32 Inch monitor is acceptable, though not the best option if your aim is to get very sharp resolution. However, when it comes to day-to-day user needs, the Sceptre C325W-1920R works just fine and will meet all our needs. On matters price, it offers the best value per Dollar spent compared to similar monitors. Bottom line, we think it is worth it, and thus recommend it to all our reader.

DESIGN AND FEATURES

Of the many we have seen, we can say with confidence that we are yet to see a monitor with a metallic bezel. While this may not affect performance as such, but it does add to aesthetic appeal as well as make it a tad sturdier. All around the monitor is a silver metallic bezel, moderately thin and premium looking that both looks and feels smooth to the touch. The rest of the body is made up of black plastic with the exception of the lower hind quarters, which houses most of the components that make the Sceptre C325W-1920R possible. This section is equally made of a smoothly curved metal.

The stand comes attached to the display at an angle. The unfortunate part is that the stand offers only tilt ergonomic freedom; no swivel, height or rotation motions are supported. While we mention this as a con, it does not qualify as such completely because most monitors within its price range offer the kind of stand. Moreover, if you have work a good enough work desk, this will prove but a little concern. However, it this issue is a major concern to you as a user, you may consider purchasing a monitor stand, that made possible thanks to the 100 x 100mm VESA mount holes supplied at the back of the display. The stand is easily dis-mountable by first removing the plastic cover on the stand which will  reveal two screws that can be unscrewed to make room for an external stand or for wall mounting.

Features

The OSD buttons are located at the rear of the display, on the left side from the user. The location of the five keys is not exactly ideal when it comes to visibility, and does require a little time to get used to them. However, once muscle memory kicks in after a  day of two of use, its pretty easy to navigate without much effort. Further, the power button is located at the very bottom, which makes it very easy to access and acclimatize to.

On general outlook, the screen is neither too large nor too small. It offers sufficient real-estate to host two documents side by side, with a video playing in a small window on the bottom left of right corner. Considering that that it is a 1080p monitor, icons do not appear too small not do text requite scaling to see clearly. That makes the Sceptre C325W-1920R an excellent productivity monitor.

CONNECTIVITY

On matters port selection, the Sceptre C325W-1920R is sufficiently equipped. It comes with all the necessary ports:

A HDMI, VGA, DisplayPort,  Mini-Jack for VGA audio input and another Mini-Jack for VGA audio Output for external speaker or headphone. The VGA, HDMI and DP support an input signal of up to 1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz.

PERFORMANCE

Expectation often defines perspective, and thus determines satisfaction or dissatisfaction. Coming in with the right expectation, you will find the Sceptre C325W-1920R 32 Inch Curved LED Gaming Monitor an excellent monitor. I say that with caution, not to be misunderstood as either vouching for it nor being too lenient.

For users who are not so keen on gaming, the Sceptre C325W-1920R will make an excellent choice of a monitor. Pixel density in a 32 Inch display with a 1920 x 1080 pixels is on the lower side. But sufficient enough for general productivity and media consumption. Images appear decently sharp when using the monitor two feet away from your eyes, which is how most users tend to use their monitors. It is only when you lean in very close to the monitor that you notice individual pixels. Documents open up as would be expected, with decently sized fonts that are clearly legible. No scaling is necessary as would probably be the case with high resolution displays.

Viewing angle and contrast

Viewing angle are good, better than you would find in most TN panels, but not in the league of IPS displays. Color reproduction is also decent, but of course suffers a hit due to the low pixel density. However, you will not likely notice it outrightly unless places side by side with a higher resolution monitor or a 1080p monitor with a smaller screen size. Contrast levels are not as impressive, an inherent problem with LED lit monitors, with blacks to some degree appearing a shade of gray. The bright side is that this noticeable in very dark scenes and in poorly lit rooms.

The Sceptre C325W-1920R however, does not feature dynamic sync which mean that playing fast paced games results in some motion blur and ghosting. This will vary depending on the game played and how fast the frames are rendered by the graphics card. However, when it comes to ordinary content and slow paced games, this problem becomes non-existent. All in all, the Sceptre C325W-1920R makes a decent general user monitor and leisure gaming monitor with the above mentioned drawbacks taken into consideration.

If your need is a hard core gaming monitor, then you might want to consider the Pixio PX276 27 inch 144Hz 1ms gaming monitor or the Sceptre C328B-144KN Curved Gaming, which happen to be among the cheapest in their category.

CONCLUSION

The main consideration when purchasing a piece of tech for most people is quality, followed by price. The quality of the Sceptre C325W-1920R is without doubt assured, and its price better than all its competition. In addition to being a 32 Inch display, it is also curved, has a good selection of ports and great performance. That said, it comes with its own weaknesses as does any other monitor. Color reproduction and contrast levels suffer a hit or two owing to the large display size, and the lack of a dynamic sync leaves the Sceptre C325W-1920R susceptible to motion blur. The bottom line is that the Sceptre C325W-1920R is a very good monitor. If the above mentioned drawback do not weigh heavily on your scale, by all means to go for it.
