The LG Electronics 24MC57HQ-P 24 features a rather conservative design that is set to appeal to general users. By that we mean, its right there in the middle: neither too gaudy nor too run-of-the-mill. Its exterior is made of a mix of glossy and matte plastic.

At first glance, one can’t help but notice the thin bezel that surround the display. You may wonder, why exactly does this matter. Well, if you are used to a single monitor set-up, bezel size may be the least of your worries – except for the fact that thick bezels are going out of trend. But when you have two monitors side by side, then bezel size begins to matter a lot. You really don’t want a huge block of bezel smack smack between your screens dual. It just ruins the fun.

The stand and and bezel are coated with a black glossy plastic finish that nice to the eyes and touch. However, the shinny finish shows fingerprints and dust quite readily thus needing regular cleaning. The hind side of the monitor has a matte finish about it that’s also attractive, more to our preference over the glossy finish.

Ports are located the rear bottom end of the monitor. Right above the ports are four 75 x 75 mm VESA mount holes for wall mounting as well as for mounting on an independent stand.

The orientation of the ports poses a challenge when one wants to wall mount the unit. Cables connect horizontally to the port interface, which means that the monitor will lie completely flat on the wall owing to cable interference. However, this does not mean that it is not possible to wall mount the unit.

Assembling the unit is but child’s play. The bottom plate fits easily into the arm, which then can be easily fitted into the joint at the bottom of the display. Below the base plate is a screw that one tightens to firmly fit it to the arm.

Selection of ports in the LG Electronics 24MC57HQ-P is decent, nothing out of the ordinary in the budget category. It comes with a VGA port (D-Sub), HDMI port (HDMI 1.3) and a audio jack (for head headphone/ external speaker connection). It goes without saying that the port selection is clearly not beyond reproach. A choice of at least a DVI port rather than a VGA port would have been better, but this obviously is one of the trade offs we have to live with at this price point. Find out more about the ports selected here.

Assembling the LG Electronics 24MC57HQ-P Monitor

I guess by now you are almost fed up with all the talk about the externals. You want to know whether the LG Electronics 24MC57HQ-P is worth its salts. Well, you will be pleased to note that for the most part, it is.

With a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels for a 24 inch display, image quality is crisp and inviting. Color reproduction is good, perfect for both work and media consumption. Whether you are streaming videos at FHD resolution, or watching a movie offline, the experience is without doubt fine. Contrast levels are also impressively good. Further, just as you expected, the LG Electronics 24MC57HQ-P can game quite well. Most games play very smoothly without a hint of motion blur. We however will not go as far a recommending this unit for gaming. If gaming is among the core task you expect your monitor to handle, you will find the Sceptre C325W-1920R | Amazon or the Pixio PX276 | Amazon better alternatives.

Viewing angle are great, as is expected with IPS displays. The matte finish on the other hand is not too thick to alter the color of images, or to give them an notably dark hue. Glare is completely eliminated thus making it the LG Electronics 24MC57HQ-P an excellent choice for the the office setting. This in addition to the split screen feature that allows one to divide the display to up to four sections, each section acting as a window to a different task you are handling.

Other features that the LG Electronics 24MC57HQ-P comes with include: Reader mode which reduced the emission of blue light that is harmful to the eyes and flicker-safe technology which reduces the amount of flicker in your screen to a bear minimum thus managing eye fatigue.

Among the considerations that one needs to make before settling for a new piece of hardware is price, durability and reliability. The LG Electronics 24MC57HQ-P is well priced and reliable, and shows promise for durability. If its short comings are negligible to you as they are to us, you may want to add it to your short list.

However, if you fancy curved monitors, you may want to check out the Sceptre C325W-1920R that costs $50 more but has a lot more to offer than our review monitor. But if you are on a tight budget, you may find the HP Pavilion 22cwa an equally good alternative, going for less than $100.
