If you’re still here, then you must be looking for a monitor other than a gamer. So you’re in the right place.

The LG 32MA70HY-P 32-Inch Full HD IPS Monitor is one such monitor customized for office and home work. It sports some impressive on-paper specs including screen splitting capabilities such that each partition is independent. Also, it offers In Plane Switching (IPS) which is vital for professionals and users in this category because of the need for color accuracy. More on that below.

  • Plenty of real estate to work with -32-inches
  • Great viewing angles thanks to IPS Panel
  • Full HD Display
  • Decent price tag
  • Comes with Split screen option
  • Beautiful design

  • Competition offers better value for money
  • Lacks any kind of Adaptive Sync technology-FreeSync or G-Sync
  • Lack modern port – USB Type-C
  • Lacks 100% sRGB Color Gamut Not for Image Designers

For starters, this monitor looks absolutely incredible and the design and some included features are upto par with premium monitors in the market now. That said, we do enjoy the wide real estate (32-inches), friendly price, 60 Hz IPS panel and Full HD which altogether make it a good monitor. On the flip side, there are a bunch of other monitors which offer better value for money especially if you’re interested in gaming. Otherwise, if you don’t mind 32-inches on Full HD (1080P) and lack of Adaptive Sync technology, then you don’t need much and this might be a great choice for you.

Design and Features

From the design, to the specifications and finally the features, the LG 32MA70HY-P is by far a magnificent “no frills” monitor. The design is slim and sleek with an all-black finish. The first thing that hits you at first glance is the enormous 31.5-inch size of this mammoth. The bezel is thin, the base curved and the whole design minimalistic and inspiring.

Planning on watching movies on this monitor? If that’s the case, glossy screen should only be a problem under direct sunlight (but who watches movies outside in the sun) or directly opposite direct beams of light. The panel does not support AMD’s FreeSync or Intel’s G-Sync but that should not worry you if you’re not thinking along playing Triple A modern title games.

On the bright side, the panel does show promise through the 250 cd/m2 brightness, 16:9 aspect ratio, 5ms response time and 60Hz refresh rate. Generally, these should work well with general multimedia and office use. Additionally, while gamers looking for more than 60 Hz refresh rate have no place here, it does not completely rule out gaming. On your gaming test, games like Grand Theft Auto played swiftly without tear.

In terms of size, you’ll need lots of room to accommodate the LG 32MA70HY-P. It measures 28.6 x 8.1 x 19.4 inches and weighs 14.3 pounds. As for weight, it’s of course not the lightest in the world but that’s expected for a screen of its proportion. While in the box, it would be recommended to get help handling the load, but once out of the box it is manageable.

Like most monitors, there is a stand and the LG 32MA70HY-P comes with a half-moon crescent base. The monitor is held upright by a small stand that doubles up as a cable management set for holding your cables in place when setting up. The setup is pretty easy to fix up right of the box. However, the downside is that there you will have to contend with limited adjustments; no swivel base, an options common on premium monitors. Still, that should only be a problem if you’ve used a more deluxe monitor before. Otherwise the tilt on the LG 32MA70HY-P should be enough to work with and if you really have to turn your monitor sideways, just lift it. Sadly, there is no height adjustment too.

The LG 32MA70HY-P 32-Inch Full HD IPS Monitor rear view and Ports

The rear shows a healthy set of ports well arranged for easy access. There are three in total, including a HDMI, VGA and DP port for daisy-chaining multiple monitors. These are all standard but they should get the work done. Also, you get a headphone jack and two USB 2.0 ports. The USB 2.0s come in handy should you need to connect your keyboard, mouse and flash disk. The bummer is there is no USB Type-C port, but that should not be a glaring trade-off either.

On our gaming test, the LG 32MA70HY-P rocked our gaming performance on Grand Theft Audio and Hitman. There were no visual frame drops under 60 fps of gaming and the monitor held together without tear in most less intense graphic scenes.

LG 32MA70HY-P Split Screen

We also tried our hands on the LG 32MA70HY-P Split Screen features to put it through its paces. More often than not, you find yourself working with more than one source of content. In such instances, LG’s split screen feature allows you to view more than a single source of content by splitting the screen multiple times so you have all the content simultaneously on your screen. For this 32-inch monitor, we managed to split the screen into four sections which actually brought in a whole new level of efficiency while working. Whether you’re a photographer, graphic artist, video engineer, composer or just the classic multitasker, this tool is bound to bring you efficiency.

To get started, you have to download LG’s Split Screen app from their website. There is a process including choosing the right make and model of your monitor before ultimately downloading. Fortunately, this setup works with more than just Windows; you can add it to your Mac and it should work just right. The recommended option for connection is Thunderbolt but for this system, there is none so the HDMI port should do just fine. (There are plenty of mini-display cables on Amazon)

On screen performance, the LG 32MA70HY-P had no issues displaying the required Full HD visuals. Most of the picture was crisp and well defined. As it is with IPS screens viewing angles were good with noticeable color shifting. The 5ms response time also did a fairly remarkable job of handling fast motions while gaming on Call of Duty with minor blurring and the occasional screen tearing. Sill, if you’re a casual gamer, these artifacts should not worry you or matter.

Bigger is always better, and the LG 32MA70HY-P 32-Inch Full HD IPS Monitor delivers very well on that end.  Its large screen estate makes it a cinch to work with especially for professionals. Users working  as , graphic artist, video engineer, composer or just the classic multitasker working with Microsoft Office documents and multimedia will enjoy using this monitor especially for its screen splitting capability, great viewing angles (thanks to IPS), 250 cdm2 brightness and matte screen.

In my opinion, the biggest caveat for this 32-inch monitor are two things: It lacks 100% sRGB color gamut which discredits it with image designers who ideally photos and require more color control. For such, we recommend our Editor’s Choice, the BenQ SW2700PT. Secondly, the fact that the monitor isn’t 4K. This is a 32-inch beast, and the least it should have is 4K. But that should only be a glaring trade-off for gamers, who if I were to continue nitpicking, would also be at a loss for the lack of more than 60Hz refresh rate and FreeSync/ G-Sync.

In conclusion, the LG 32MA70HY-P monitor is for all other intents and purposes a drool-worthy monitor. Even though its stand is not highly adjustable, its price tag is a steal with great bang for buck. If you’re looking to watch movies, play some old school games, work on MS Office or are just a regular multitasker, this should be a great companion for your day-to-day home and office duties.
