Lenovo ThinkPad T460s Ultrabook 20F9003CUS laptop See at Amazon is Lenovo’s latest Windows 10 laptop release to hit the business market. It replaces the ThinkPad T450 and ThinkPad T440p which also made their mark on the business laptop frontier. With the features this ThinkPad T460s bolsters, it’s bound to remain relevant for a number of years for majority of office and business clientele.
From a specification stand point, it looks and sounds all too familiar with our latest business laptop pick, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon. They do have similarities but also a great number of details differs. We break it down in the review below.
Lenovo Thinkpad T460s Review
- Great performance
- Lightweight build with plenty of ports
- Wide viewing angles
- Great touchscreen display
- Option for docking station – optional ThinkPad Ultra Dock
- Average battery life
- Lacks replaceable battery
The Lenovo ThinkPad T460s Ultrabook 20F9003CUS laptop See at Amazon is an impressive machine out to improve on its predecessor and competition’s weaknesses. It was built to be lighter than the Lenovo ThinkPad T450 but at the same time lacks in battery life but compensates that with a great backlit keyboard and great port system.
DESIGN AND FEATURES
Nothing much changed for the ThinkPad T460 from an outward casual user outlook. But the intricate details did change. We still have a familiar keyboard, Trackpoint and trackPad. But the security biometric fingerprint scanner has been moved to the palm rest, right next to the trackpad.
The construction is still a solid mix of carbon fiber on the chassis lid and a little measure of magnesium to cover the bottom deck. With these two hard covers, the T460 can take a god beating before it goes down and that makes it stand out among other brands. The system is also MIL-STD 810G certified to withstand the elements: dust, altitude, high temperature, and vibrations.
As far as measurements go, the ThinkPad T460 measures 13 x 8.9 x.74 inches and weighs slightly above 3 pounds. That is a slight improvement from the predecessor Lenovo ThinkPad T450s See at Amazon (13 x 8.9 x 0.83 inches, 3.8 pounds). This shows the T460 shed a few pounds (0.8) to earn its lightweight title. The cousin Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga See at Amazon doesn’t weigh that much different from both of these (2.8 pounds).
Weight aside, the ThinkPad T460s sports a 1920 x 1080 resolution touchscreen. The resolution appeals to users who enjoy watching movies and streaming YouTube 1080p YouTube video. For security, the ThinkPad T460 comes with the Intel vPro built-in, and the system comes with Trusted Platform Module to help IT clients with encryption.
Just like most Lenovo premium business laptops in the market now, there is an included built-in fingerprint reader on the touchpad’s side. All you have to do is touch (instead of the traditional swipe) and you are logged in. You can also pre-order a Smart Card reader to go with the laptop especially if you have employees or serve a big office.
While in the rush to make a laptop sleek and thin, many laptop brands trade-off a great port system for size. The Lenovo ThinkPad T460s Ultrabook 20F9003CUS however manages to include a decent number of ports to deliver the elusive business laptop experience. On the left side is the power adapter jack, a single USB 3.0 port, microphone/ headphone combo jack and a 4-in-1 card reader. The right side has a Smart card reader, 2 USB 3.0 ports, a mini DisplayPort for external monitor connections and HDMI out. Additionally, the Ethernet jack, SIM card slot and Kensington lock are all housed on this side.
Lenovo also included a dedicated docking station connection for all those with the need to have other options of connectivity. You can now add the ThinkPad Ultra Docking Station to cater for that.
Our reviewed unit of the Lenovo T460s came with 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7-6600U processor with 3.4 GHz turbo boost, 8 GB of DDR4-SDRAM (2133 MHz) and 256 GB Solid State storage. These are a combination of premium hardware that offers strong performance adequate for everyday office tasks, multimedia purposes, demanding applications and multitasking.
As for gaming, this is a business laptop and comes with an integrated Intel HD graphics 520 GPU which barely plays any recent titles. That also includes anything too graphic intensive for instance doing some serious CAD modeling. However, it can handle editing of images and short video and watching video/movies.
KEYBOARD AND TRACKPAD
Lenovo keyboard have a long impressive track record and that’s the one thing we know Lenovo is not ready to change. That said, we expected the industry leading keyboard on this laptop too as the reputation goes and I’m pleased that didn’t change. The keys are still tactile, well spaced, have deep travel (1.9mm) and constant smiling keys. The keyboard is still spill resistant (I noticed some version of Lenovo miss this feature) and comes with a backlit keyboard.
The touchpad measures 3.9 x 2.2 inches and is a bottomless keypad with great navigation and responsive gesture control. The few gestures such pinch-to- zoom, two-finger scroll and three-finger swipe all worked without any trouble. The fingerprint sensor sits right next to the keypad.
With the touchscreen advantage, the T460 managed to achieve 7 hours 20 minutes on our rundown battery test. Comparatively, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga See at Amazon clocks 8 hours 28 minutes. The predecessor the Lenovo ThinkPad T450s See at Amazon is a battery king thanks to it swappable battery. As a result it whips it new brother with an amazing 15 hours 23 minutes making it a clear ally for all those lovers of long-lasting battery.

In conclusion of the Lenovo T460 review…
The remarkable attributes of the Lenovo ThinkPad T460s Ultrabook 20F9003CUS See at Amazon speak for themselves and so make the laptop highly recommendable for a variety of uses. It appeals more to the office oriented work user and students with the need to for an ultraportable with security features, great display and comfortable keyboard. In comparison with its industry rivals, the ThinkPad T460 loses the battle in a few aspects.
The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon See at Amazon costs slightly more but offers a higher 4K resolution, lightweight build, long-lasting and versatile battery and longer warranty. Also, while we’re still comparing, the recently reviewed HP EliteBook Folio G1 See at Amazon beats the Lenovo ThinkPad T460s Ultrabook 20F9003CUS hands down on pricing and weight. However, it has a limited port system and shorter battery life than the X1 Carbon champ. These are all the important facts you’ll need to know before adding to cart. Otherwise, Lenovo T460 is still a true contender that we find easy to recommend.
