DESIGN AND FEATURES
Most budget Chromebooks do little to really stand out themselves from others; sporting simple and forgettable designs to go with their modest on paper specs. The HP Chromebook 11 G5 makes a bold statement on the contrary. We loved the elegant curves on the top corners and the rubberized sections of the bezel to protect it from bumps and shocks. We’ve seen the same neat creation on the Dell Chromebook 3189, but the G5’s slimmer waistline shows a well-built body with finer points.
At 11.6 inches, the 1366 x 768 pixel screen is the crown jewel of this Chromebook. The display is made of LED-lit glossy screen which doesn’t do a great job deflecting rays of light. Nonetheless, the screen is IPS so images pop, colors are good and viewing angles decent. The screen is held together to the keyboard section by two silver hinges on both sides. Well, the hinges aren’t as flexible as the Acer Chromebook Spin 11 or the Asus Chromebook Flip (C302CA-DHM4) which both contort all the way; 360 degrees to tablet mode. So no, this is no the HP Chromebook 11 G5 is no convertible.
Even so, HP’s Chromebook 11 G5 X9U02UT is a good size for fitting into elementary and middle schoolers’ hands and backpacks. The Chromebook measures 17.5 x 10 x 3 inches and weighs 3.9 pounds. The outer dimensions are slightly bigger and heavier than the new Acer Chromebook 11 (CB311-8HT/ CB311-8H) which measures 11.57 x 8.03 x 0.73 inches and weighs 2.43 pounds. The new Chromebook 11 adds a healthy dose of style to the Chrome OS laptop which is welcomed. There’s a touch and a non-touch option so if you’re thinking of owning a better version, this lively electric blue and black color-schemed Chromebook might make a good companion. (non-touch model (CB311-8H) and a slightly more expensive touchscreen version (CB311-8HT)

You need a healthy port selection to stay in sync with your other devices. The HP Chromebook 11 G5 X9U02UT has a lean supply of ports. It comes with 2 USB 3.0 ports which are sufficient for your day-today data transfer. Alternatively, if you need more than 2 USB ports simultaneously, you might want to get yourself a USB Hub. Notably, there is no Ethernet port because the sides are too thin to accommodate one. Other connectivity options including the USB 3.0 are listed below.
- 2 x USB 3.0 ports
- 1 x HDMI-out
- 5 mm Audio Combo Jack
- Digital Media Reader- MicroSD Card Slot
For networking, the HP Chromebook 11 G5 X9U02UT comes with the state of the art Intel 7265 dual band (2×2), 802.11 ac wireless cord. This accounts for faster download and upload speeds, relatively less latency than the previous generations and of course better signal quality. All these come in handy especially when you’re surfing the internet at crowded areas, where a router has to serve multiple users.
Additionally, there is 4.2 Bluetooth for extra connectivity should you need to pair with another device like your phone.
The biggest and most defining caveat for this Chromebook 11 might be the 1.6 GHz Intel Celeron N3060 processor. For the price the Chromebook comes with, it’s a great steal but for users looking for more performance, this might be a little below the threshold.

The 1.6 GHz Intel Celeron N3060 processor is low-end dual core processor from 2015, and part of the Braswell architecture mostly common in notebooks. It is a predecessor of the Celeron N3050 but it offers significantly better performance including improved clock speeds of 2.48 Ghz on Turbo. That’s so much better than N3050’s 2.16 Ghz turbo boost speeds.
Moving on, the processor works alongside 16GB of storage and 4 GB LPDDR3 SDRAM memory. The memory is adequate for simple everyday tasks. It can handle light internet browsing, checking mail office applications, multimedia or simple tasks like catching up with your favorite YouTube channel. Complex games and software will not be ideal here so might be a good idea to lay off.
16GB eMMC storage is great especially because it helps with the boot ups. The computer loads in seconds so you don’t have to wait that long; simply press start and it get going seconds later. However, if you’re like me and already used to Windows laptops, 16GB might be a bit on the low side. So getting an alternative form of storage might be a good idea. I would recommend a micro SD to get things going.
There is no dedicated graphics card that comes along with this laptop, just the integrated Intel graphics 400. This means the HP Chromebook 11 G5 is not a gamer. This is kind of obvious and expected for a laptop at its price range. If you really have to pass time with some sort of game, perhaps solitaire or little league Minecraft can do.
Benchmarks- on Octane Scores it achieved a sleek 9000 which is much better than the Acer Chromebook R11’s 8000. The G5 seems to be a bit zippier.
Battery Life and Cooling
The HP Chromebook 11 G5 is served by a 2-cell, 44Whr Li-ion battery pack. Thanks to an energy efficient processor, this Chromebook can hold charge to a remarkable 12 hours. Battery life is crucial to every laptop so it makes this Chromebook a top of the line product. The system is fanless because the processor is not notorious for heat emission. So you don’t have to worry about the underside getting warm.
Chromebooks rarely pack impressive hardware but they require it. Most especially for when you’re planning to visit some intensely graphic websites and programs from the Chrome OS. Additionally, because of the Chrome OS, you don’t have to keep downloading traditional. You can make a choice from the thousands of apps and extensions available for the Chrome OS users.
The Intel Celeron N3060 processor, 4GB of DDR3 RAM and 16GB flash storage make this Chrome OS a laptop of the future. The 12 hour battery is magnificent for students and users looking for an all-day work and college budget Chromebook. It comes handy for browsing the internet, checking email, office applications, multimedia or simple tasks like catching up with your favorite YouTube channel. Anyone who values mobility, convenience and budget should find this laptop an instant asset.
