Eluktronics Pro-X P650HP6-G Review
Eluktronics has come a long way as a laptop brand and it continues to baffle us as we dig deeper into its folds. We’ve been reviewing this laptop brand since the start of the second part of the year (2016). And we’re clearly not alone in liking what we’ve seen so far. The Eluktronics Pro-X P650HP6-G VR Ready 120Hz 5ms Gaming laptop we’re reviewing today is like many others in our Eluktronics laptop list; it shares a more subtle appeal, unlike other gamer laptops we’ve crossed paths with. This unit comes with an aluminum cover which is pretty great. It also sports a promising tough frame, but we’ve also seen others with plastic too.
- Decent and subtle design
- High-end features like Core i7 processor, Nvidia 1060 GPU
- Great performance
- Large 15.6 inch screed with IPS display
- 120Hz refresh rates and 5ms are great for gaming
- Decent keyboard
- futuristic ports – USB Type-C
- Installed Windows 10 with no Bloatware
- Poor battery life
- No Optical Drive available
- Pretty heavy and might need getting used to.
The Eluktronics Pro-X P650HP6-G | Amazon is a one of a kind entry level gaming laptop. It features an impressive combination of features which assure users of great performance be it in gaming, video editing or home & Office day-to-day use. It won’t ruffle your feathers if you’re into gamer appeal such as an out-of-the-world intergalactic themed laptop, but the features should stop you where you stand.
I’m talking about Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor, Full HD display (with 120Hz refresh rates and 5ms), plenty of space (256 PCIe NVMe SSD), 8GB DDR4 2400MHz RAM and 6GB GDDR5 VRAM NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1060 + G-SYNC. All in all, this is a gaming machine for users looking for something accommodative of more than gaming use. It won’t embarrass you carrying it to the office for board meetings, or at Starbucks for coffee and web browsing.

DESIGN AND FEATURES
The Eluktronics laptop we review today is a basic-looking aluminum machine, with subtle design choices that most users would not find objectionable. Its chassis is made by Clevo, like many other laptops we’ve come to know of. The Eluktronics P650HP6-G shares a similar look with its brothers and sisters; some of which we’ve reviewed in the not so recent past. Check out these:

From a distance, I noticed the more traditional design of the P650HP6-G. Designers seemed to have gone for a hunting spree for all the right angles they could find. It’s easy to notice the edges don’t just smoothen out into curves; they make slow, straight turns which give the laptop a sort of rough rugged edged look. But all the same, we were impressed with it for its simplicity and subtle non-gamer look. The Eluktronics P650HP6-G gaming laptop doesn’t brag of the cliché red and black theme or the common intergalactic design most gaming rigs have. But the design and build quality is fair as a whole. Thanks to that deliberate omission, you can carry it to work, board meeting or simply the coffee shop without worrying about it screaming gamer!
The display sits on two hinges on each end of the laptop. They allow easy opening of the screen without applying as much pressure; can be opened using one finger. The chassis is strong and frame’s build quality prevents any flex on the display. Admittedly, the Eluktronics Pro-X P650HP6-G has a sizeable bezel that gives off a traditional look, but that is pretty much drowned by the Full HD (1920 x 1080p) resolution screen. You can stream live Netflix programmes at 1080p or YouTube videos and enjoy the video and image clarity while at it. Also, there is a webcam (1080p) at the top center of the bezel which should allow you to make clear personal and conference Skype calls.

Moving on to dimensions, the Eluktronics P650HP6-G weighs just about the same as the Acer Predator Helios 300 G3-571-77QK Gaming Notebook (5.95 lbs. | 2.7 kg), but slightly more than the Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575-33BM 15.6-Inch Full HD Notebook (5.27lbs) and the Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-57D4 15.6-Inches Full HD Notebook (5.27lbs). Our unit isn’t exactly lightweight and carrying it around to class or office would need getting used to. Still, you can do that using a regular 15 inch to 17-inch bag considering it measures 15.1 x 10.6 x 1.0 inches.
Looking under the hood, the P650HP6-G reveals an easily-expandable -machine owing to a relatively easy-to-remove back panel. If you’re good with a screwdriver, taking off the numerous screws is all it takes. But that might be a little nerve-wracking for others. Just be careful not to lose the screws while at it. Speaking of the back panel, it is home to the exhaust system.
On the left is the dual exhaust fan servicing the GPU while the right has a single exhaust fan for cooling the CPU. They both run smoothly and quietly and you shouldn’t complain of noise.
Security Features and Speakers
Eluktronics included some extras into this machine including a Fingerprint Reader for secure login and TPM 2.0, Kensington® Lock. The lock holds your laptop securely in place when you take a minute away (perhaps while having coffee/lunch in a public restaurant). There’s nothing much to the Finger-print scanner, so don’t expect to be impressed responsive touch. That aside, you can also listen to music through the Sound Blaster X-Fi MB5 with Onkyo Speakers. We won’t make any promises of remarkable sound quality because they are just average and surely get the job done. However, they can fill a small room with ease.
Moving on, the port system is healthy and includes some futuristic ports as well. The left side has single HDMI® 2.0 (with HDCP), USB 3.0, 2 Mini DisplayPort v1.4 and an exhaust vent outlet. The back has a yet another exhaust, power jack, and a single USB 3.0 port. Meanwhile, the right side is home to a 2-in-1 Audio Jack (Headphone & S/PDIF output), a single Microphone jack, one Line out jack and a 6-in-1 SD Card reader. On top of that, there is a single USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports (Type-C), two H DMI ports for boosting display accuracy on external monitors. Finally, you get a single Gigabit Ethernet for your LAN connections.
Meanwhile, the right side where the Optical Drive is usually located is occupied with ports, so you should probably find an external optical drive to handle your music, movies, and software. Check out the Dell DW316 External USB Slim DVD R/W Optical Drive 429-AAUX or the LG Electronics 8X USB 2.0 Super Multi Ultra Slim Portable DVD Writer Drive for a slightly budget price.
Other connectivity options include wireless: Intel Dual-Band Wireless-AC 8265 2×2 and Bluetooth 4.2
An Intel Core i7-7700HQ Quad-core processor is the backbone that runs this laptop. It works at 2.8 GHz and can hit 3.8GHz on TurboBoost (6MB L3 Cache). The Clevo Control Centre Software helps in overclocking the processor should you need to. It is the one software that comes preinstalled in this machine just like the Windows Operating system. Anyway, the processor works hand in hand with 8 GB DDR4 2400MHz memory, 128GB Eluktro Pro-X PCIe NVMe Solid State Storage. As for the graphics card, it works with a 6GB GDDR5 VRAM NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1060 + G-SYNC.
First of all, the Kaby Lake H architecture processor is a pretty new processor replacing the Core i7-6700HQ from the Skylake generation. It takes up more power (45-Watt TDP) but gives considerably more performance. This is a similar processor to the one installed in the premium Acer Predator Triton 700 and Acer Predator Helios 300; so you know it’s the best.
On the other hand, it flaunts an 8GB DDR4 2400MHz memory which is also decent for casual use. But for gaming, 16GB DDR4 would have been better. The silver lining though is that there are three empty DDR4 slots to add memory on your own. Additionally, there are two 2.5″ 7mm HDD/SSD for expanding your storage (the mounting hardware included) if the 128 GB NVMe solid state drive doesn’t make the cut. On the bright side, while the 128 GB might not be enough for large storage, it is sufficient to shorten boot times and handle multitasking with a breeze.
Graphics, Gaming and Benchmarks
That aside, the Eluktronics Pro-X P650HP6-G is powered by the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 graphics unit with 6GB GDDR5 VRAM. This is a competitive GPU and it shows its aggression at gaming by playing games at Full HD and 1440p. The GPU consumes 120W of power; significantly less than other GPUs like the AMD RX 480 (150W), so that translates to less heat dissipation. You get 3 DisplayPort connectors, an HDMI 2.0b port and a DVI port (1.4a). All these are great for connection to other external monitors and devices including your VR setup.
Moving on to gaming performance, the GTX 1060 allows the Eluktronics to bump up performance for slightly less challenging games. A few triple-A games had decent results for a couple of games. We put the P650HP6 through its paces with the following games. Generally, with this GPU you’re assured of gaming on most games, and the refresh rate helps a lot too.
- CPU Benchmark 89 – Core i7-7700HQ
- GPU Benchmark 89 – GTX 1060

Eluktronics Pro-X P650HP6-G Battery life
Eluktronics doesn’t publicly advertise this PCs battery life but it can last between 3 and 5 hours depending on usage. This above all is its glaring weakness. The Acer Predator Helios 300 beats it thanks to a longer lasting 6-hour battery.
This Eluktronics laptop comes with 200 Watt AC Adapter and a 4-Cell 60WHr battery.
Typing is an integral part of a users world, just as much as gaming is. So keyboard comfort is very essential. The Eluktronics Pro-XP650HP6-G keyboard, unlike everything else, stands out especially thanks to the full-size backlit keyboard and modest brushed plastic deck/palm rest. The keyboard backlighting is customizable and you can opt whichever color you please through the backlight software. Additionally, it is a 10-key numeric keypad with decent individual key travel.

Our reviewed unit goes above and beyond what the Eluktronics P650HP6 Premium VR Ready Gaming Laptop (with 60Hz refresh rate) we reviewed earlier set out to do. Unlike the Eluktronics P650HP6, our unit comes with a more above-the-par feature; to be precise, a more versatile and defining display with 120Hz and 5ms. That above all is what differentiates these two laptops and makes the Eluktronics Pro-X P650HP6-G exclusively better.
In comparison with the newly released Acer Predator Helios 300 (G3-571-77QK), the P650HP6 is less impressive on a feature-to-feature basis. Of course, the Predator is better owing to a number of things. It brags of a slightly lower price tag, better gamer aesthetics and battery life (6 hours on normal use). The processor, performance, and benchmarks are remarkable as well.
The one attribute that the P650HP6 might be better for is, arguably a more subtle aesthetic and fast refresh rate (120Hz). Ultimately, while the Eluktronics Pro-X P650HP6-G is a remarkable laptop, the Acer Predator Helios 300 remains our Editor’s Choice for entry-level gaming laptops.
