I freaking love the Eluktronics brand, with good reason. Before I start sounding cheesy to you, let me tell you how things played out until I got here. When I first heard of them, I must say I was skeptical. That’s because its not always that the new comer to the tea party come in with the best snacks. Well, it may happen sometimes, but you get my drift… Looking in retrospect right now, I must admit my fears were well founded though they never saw the light of day.

After giving it a try, I can’t help but admit that its not at all bad. Its actually becoming a favorite. I can literally feel myself growing fond of it… superb mix of features it has! I predict that with the growing demand for powerful yet affordable PCs, Eluktronics will slowly become a household brand. Gamers especially aught to get more intimate with them (Eluktronics PCs) and their work.

I fell in love with yet another of their awesome laptop, the Eluktronics N850HJ Pro-X Premium Gaming Laptop | Amazon. Spare a peek for it too.

In spite of the brand name not being as famous or widely known as other major brands, the Eluktronics N850HJ Pro-X Premium Gaming Laptop | Amazon continues to impress. It has nothing shady as one would anticipate. As a matter of fact, Eluktronics has set the bar high far above your run-to-the-mill entry-level gaming laptop. It bolsters a great premium package of specs that are only comparable to industry leading gaming brands: I’m talking about Intel® Core i7-7700HQ Quad Core (2.8-3.8GHz TurboBoost, 6MB L3 Cache), 16GB of RAM, 256GB SSD and 2GB GDDR5 VRAM NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1050 graphics card. Best of all it does that while still maintaining a low and friendly price and subtle gamer look for which reason we recommend it highly.

The design of the Eluktronics is almost similar across most of their laptops especially the N-series. The P-series have more a more jugged edge appeal compared to the N-series. Our reviewed unit looks almost identical to the Eluktronics N850HK1 Pro Premium Gaming Laptop we reviewed a while ago. They both share a dark and rugged look which makes the Eluktronics N850HJ Pro-X Premium Gaming Laptop far less gaudy compared with other gaming laptops. It’s nothing close to flashy – far from the intergalactic themes to MSI and Acer. Don’t mistake me though, it does quite and impressive look – muscular if you ask me. Although a little chunky, it still fits snug in sizable 15 inch or 17 inch laptop bag/carry-on and won’t shame you if you decide to carry it along to the office. Check out the best laptop bagpack 2017 article for more of this. The screen is 15 inch and ample for any kind of use, especially gaming and watching videos. But should you require more, there is a 17 inch configuration available. For the display Clevo used a 15.6″ IPS panel with a Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution and an antiglare coating. Thanks to the IPS panel, viewing angle are quite wide – far better than you find in most gaming PCs with TN panels. We loved that the screen features a 72% NTSC color coverage and plays at 60Hz refresh rates. That works marvelously to eliminate drag and ghosting during gaming while at the same time keeping the picture life-like.

The Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution compares well to Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming (7567) | Amazon, MSI GT62VR Dominator Pro-005, Razer Blade (Early 2017) | Amazon and the Lenovo Legion Y520 | Amazon. We would have loved a higher 3840 x 2160 resolution like on the Razer Blade Pro (2016) | Amazon, HP Omen 17 | Amazon and Origin EON17-X 10 Series | Amazon but Eluktronics has yet to provide configurations for that.

Moving on to dimensions, the Eluktronics N850HJ Pro-X measures 14.88 x 10.51 x 1.06″ inches and weighs 5.6lbs. That is a similar weight to the Lenovo Legion Y520 (5.56lbs) but lighter than most of gaming laptops such as the Razor Blade Pro (2016) (7.72 lbs), HP Omen 17 (6.28lbs), Origin EON17-X 10 Series (9.91lbs), Acer Predator 15 (G9-593-72VT) | Amazon (8.26) and the Asus ROG G752VS-XB78K Overclocked Edition | Amazon (9.92lbs)

Strong connectivity options are a plus for the Eluktronics N850HJ Pro thanks to the standard ports included. I’m talking about two USB 3.0 Ports, a single USB 2.0, one USB 3.1 Gen 2 port (Type C), a HDMI (with HDCP) for external monitor display and two Mini DisplayPorts to back external display.

Additionally, there is the Gigabit Ethernet, one Headphone jack, a Microphone jack and an SD Card Reader just in case you require extra storage space or need to back up your digital camera images.Other connectivity options include: Intel Dual-Band Wireless-AC 8265 2×2 and Bluetooth 4.2. For security, the laptop is fitted with a Kensington lock, Fingerprint Reader and TPM 2.0. Eluktronics also offers one Year warranty within the US.

When it comes to features Eluktronics sure do know how to pick out of the best. You’ll be hard pressed to find more bang for the buck than the Eluktronics N850HJ Pro-X’s 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7-7700HQ Quad Core processor, 16GB DDR4 2400MHz RAM (1 Dimm) and 2GB GDDR5 VRAM NVIDIA® GeForce GTX 1050 at this price. At the moment only the Dell Inspiron 15 7000 gaming laptop comes anyway close. The Eluktronics holds its own against hardcore Core i7 systems like the Acer predator 15 and HP Omen 17.

These other larger brands have an edge on our tests but they are pricier. It surprising that on casual task such as web browsing, word processing, photo editing and multi-tasking the Eluktronics is not far behind. The N850HJ Pro laptop also features a clean installation of the Windows 10 Home 64-Bit operating system and fortunately no bloatware to ruin it all. Also this configuration bolsters a healthy 256GB PCIe SSD storage with no HDD to go along with. You can boost the SSD storage if you need more space as it goes a long way to enhancing read and write speeds.

On the other hand, Eluktronics offers an option for 1TB HDD storage option in which case you will have an open slot for one M.2 2280 SSD (SATA or PCIe Gen3 x4 interface). With that you can do plenty of video editing, photo editing and multi-task at the same time.

For gaming, Eluktronics went with the Pascal architecture GeForce GTX 1050 which roughly is on par with the GTX 950M GPU. The GPU performs well on low setting 1280 x 720; with a promise of above 60 fps on most AAA games.

Of the two newcomers, Nvidia 1050 and Nvidia 1050Ti, the later appeals to us more simply by virtue of onboard memory and performance. But the 1050 is efficient and more budget friendly – more reason why Eluktronics pitched their tent with it.

The Eluktronics N85HJ Pro-X laptop has a roomy chassis and plenty of space to accommodate the wrist. The palm rest is dark and polished and the keyboard is just the right distance for normal sized hands. The keyboard is also RGB backlit with blue and white lighting around individual keys. There’s a 10-key number pad on the right side which comes in handy when doing your calculus. Meanwhile, the touchpad sits slightly aligned to the right to cater for right-handed users. It is a precision touchpad and is very responsive to touch and gestures.

Note: To control the backlit keyboard please press the “Fn + *” key in the numeric keypad to turn the keyboard on and off. There should be other options for adjusting color scheme or fade/ add brightness the backlighting too.

Battery life on the t laptop isn’t as much to go by. Eluktronics doesn’t give an official statement of their battery situation on their website – we would have bashed them if they gave a false/ inflated one like many companies do! Anticipate 2 hours 30 minutes while gaming and 3 to 4 hours on ordinary web browsing. The battery is a 6-cell 62WHr and is charged by a 120Watt AC adapter.

We have reviewed a dozen Eluktronics laptops and I must say the company has something going for them. The Eluktronics N850HJ Pro-X Premium Gaming Laptop | Amazon in particular had something under its sleeve and as a result deserved a review. I was impressed with the 15 inch IPS display as it is capable of playing games at 60Hz and has 72% NTSC color saturation. That ensures your screen delivers he expected frames while cruising through AAA games. The Core i7, 16GB of RAM, 256GB storage also count as top of the line features that contribute massively to fast clock speeds.

Update: In comparison, the P-Series Eluktronics line offer better IPS screens with the Eluktronics Pro-X P650HP6-G VR Ready Gaming laptop leading the way with 120Hz refresh rates and 5ms. Alternatively, the Eluktronics P650HP6 15″ FHD Gaming Laptop offers better a IPS screen with 60Hz refresh rate; similar to our reviewed unit.

But the biggest advantage we found with this laptop is the pricing. If you’re an avid gamer or video editor, you get to have the same specs on this laptop and save a load of cash while at it…I mean in the hundreds! If that’s not a reason to celebrate, then I don’t know what works for you. Bottom line, we recommend it for all those lovers of budget gaming laptops.

It compares well with the Lenovo Legion Y520 | Amazon, Razor Blade (Early 2017) | Amazon and the Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming Laptop | Amazon. Check out other Eluktronics laptops we’ve reviewed: The Eluktronics P650HP6 15.6″ FHD Laptop and the Eluktronics N850HK1 Pro Premium Gaming Laptop.
