DESIGN AND FEATURES
For a pre-assembled desktop, the CYBERPOWERPC design is impressively built. In fact, we loved the aesthetics of the CYBERPOWERPC desktop more than any other. Our last reviewed CYBEROWERPC, the CYBERPOWERPC Gamer Xtreme VR GXiVR8020A2 Desktop Gaming PC to be exact, had outstanding aesthetics with impressive red LED lighting and a large Plexiglas case door on its right side panel.
However, our unit outlasts the CYBERPOWERPC Gamer Xtreme VR GXiVR8020A2 Desktop Gaming PC in a jousting match fair and square. It’s made of a black contoured metal case with similar but smaller Plexiglas case door on its right side panel. The front face is plastic with a battle-ready-themed design. It’s a brave intergalactic face with a slash of green stripe complementing the green LED lighting the case.Judging from the outside appearance, the CYBERPOWERPC is slightly taller (20.5 x 7.3 x 17.5 inches) than its brother the CYBERPOWERPC Gamer Xtreme VR GXiVR8020A2 Desktop Gaming PC (15.5 x 12.4 x 9.9 inches). The design reminds us of the Alienware Aurora R6 desktop which also has ceiling ventilation grills and an easily removable side panel. Aurora (Alienware AUR5-12571SLV Desktop) is also a mid-sized desktop and compares almost similar (14.9 x 8.3 x 18.6 inches) to our reviewed unit.
There are plenty of ports to go around on this CYBERPOWERPC desktop, but I would say out of everything, CYBERPOWER dropped the ball here. There are numerous USB 2.0 ports, six in counting but no USB 3.0 ports which presents transfer speed issues. Oculus Rift requires two USB 3.0 ports so that might be a limiting factor. If you plan on using HTC Vive only, this might not affect you, otherwise, it can be a deal breaker for most. You might need to get an accessory to handle that.
Moving forward, there are other ports such as a single HDMI port, DVI (Digital video interface) and a DisplayPort. The other problem is that the only available HDMI port is connected to the graphics card which means you’re going to have to buy a DVI or HDMI chord, better yet a DVI adapter to use with a monitor that comes limited to only HDMI use. It would also have been nice if the port system included a future proof USB Type-C and Thunderbolt to help with transfer speeds like laptops do. But I guess that’s a feature CYBERPOWER will include for its desktop line in a few years.
It also includes an Ethernet port (Mbit/s) 10/100/1000
The CYBERPOWERPC Gamer Ultra GUA4500A Desktop is impressive because of two reasons; a fast processor and secondly a fast graphics unit capable of giving exceptional visuals. Our reviewed unit came with a 3.5 GHz FX-Series Six-Core FX-6300 and super fast VR gobbling Zotac GeForce GTX 1060 GPU with a 6GB mini card. However, you can also opt for the more versatile configuration; AMD’s FX 8350 with 8 GB of DDR3 RAM and twice the amount of storage (2 TB HDD). You’ll be happy to know the graphics card should be able to allow gamers to max out at 1080p and play VR with no lag or stutter, but more on that below.
Don’t be fooled with the 8GB RAM, yes it might sound small on paper but that is pretty lethal for handling multitasking, especially if you’re dealing with applications. You can also opt to upgrade that to 16 GB if you plan to expand your working horizons. The processor can handle a bit of overclocking when you’re playing at max settings, but you should look for a good CPU cooler to ensure the CPU remains as cool as possible. We ran our gaming rundown to investigate the graphics unit’s limits. The CYBERPOWERPC gobbled up most of the games but did exemplary well on titles from a year or two back with great frames on high settings. Recent gaming titles played best on medium settings but could also handle ultra high settings albeit with noticeable frame drops. Prey 2017 managed 123 fps on ultra high 1920 x 1080 but 39.1 fps on ultra 3840 x 2160 settings. Mass Effect Andromeda (2017) played on 54.5 fps on ultra high but above 60 fps on all other lower settings. Call of Duty Infinite Warfare (2016), Titanfall 2 (2016) and Battlefield 1 (2016) all managed above 60 fps on ultra 1920 x 1080 settings.
The CYBERPOWERPC features a 600W power supply to power through gaming and intensive tasks.
Apart from the discouraging port system situation, we have nothing but good words for this unit. The combination of multi-core (6 core) AMD FX 6300 processor, 120GB SSD + 1TB HDD storage, 16GB DDR3 RAM and 6GB Nvidia GeForce 1060 make the CYBERPOWERPC a fast performer across the board. It manages to multitask with a flair so you won’t have to limit yourself to a single monitor and tackles everyday tasks, for instance, web browsing, email and social networking neatly.Additionally, we were very pleased with the CPU cooler and fans, which worked surprisingly well and was reasonably silent (emits a silent hum, not too distracting). The power supply made this list as well as delivering sufficient power to run even the most intensive tasks and not hurt your wallet (paying electricity bill) while at it. CYBERPOWER included plenty of space inside the case for adding extra components, fans and drives just in case some of the hardware doesn’t please you. As a result, we recommend the CYBERPOWERPC as a VR ready the desktop capable of taking you through the first wave of VR games and a gaming desktop.
We wouldn’t say it makes the cut as an intensive gaming rig but makes a good dash. It’s also suitable for non-gamers who just need to multitask or run productivity software. Bottom line, it’s a great performer that comes with great aesthetics and caps it off with a great affordable price. P/s, the CYBERPOWERPC Gamer Ultra GUA4500A Desktop price will not leave a gaping hole to your bank.
