Asus VE248Q Review

A black glossy plastic body forms the adorning of the Asus VE248Q 24 Inch LED monitor | Amazon. Its thin form betrays its tendency to excellence long before one inspects its specifications. Around the 24 inch display is a moderately thick bezel, appreciably thicker than the zero-bezel design monitors. While this is not a concrete con in itself, it would definitely have been nice to have a thinner bezel for a more modern look and better user experience when one sets up a dual or triple display head. The stand is strong and stable. It however offers only one degree of motion about the hinge, from -5 to +20 degrees vertical tilt. It can neither swivel nor pivot (clockwise of anticlockwise) about the hinge.ASUS VE248Q

Ports are located at the back and are downward facing. This makes it possible to place the monitor against a wall without having to interfere with the cabling. And in the same breath, it is important to mention that Asus VE248Q 24 Inch LED monitor is VESA compliant, which means it has a 100 x 100 mm square hole pattern at its back that allows it to be mounted on a wall using M4 screws. Further, through the stand is a hole designed to cater for cable management, hidden from direct sight.

Asus VE248Q Review

The 24 Inch ASUS VE248Q features an excellent TN display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. TN displays offer narrower viewing angles ( 170° horizontal and 160° vertical) and less color accuracy and consistency than IPS panels. On the bright side, TN displays are cheaper and offers an excellent color reproduction and brightness within their recommended viewing angles.

With a frequency of 60Hz and a 2 ms response time, the Asus VE248Q 24 Inch LED monitor is well capable of handling fast paced games or videos. Ghosting out of images is near completely obliterated owing to the rapid response time. And backlight bleading is not present in the ASUS VE248Q, a problem that’s common with IPS displays. For a 24 Inch display, a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixel is certainly sufficient for ordinary use, but of course not best suited for perfect color matching such as in expected in the graphics profession. Even small fonts are legible without eye strain. Reading is made even easier thanks to the anti-glare coating that the display comes in.

Another feature worth noting is the ASUS VE248Q’s 50,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. Dynamic is simply the difference between the darkest blacks and the brightest whites a given display can produce, which means greater viewing experience and thrill in whatever activity engaged the monitor is employed for. This features is accessible via the OSD menu.

Considering its thin form factor, fitting speaker into it that actually sounds good is indeed impressive. The speakers do not demonstrate distortion at even high volume levels, and you can actually hear the base. While they cannot compete with high quality external speakers, they’re quite sufficient for day-to-day use.

Among the features that the ASUS VE248Q comes with is the Splendid Video Intelligence Technology. It includes six preset modes that are available for different usage scenarios. These pre-calibrated modes include Scenery, Standard, Theater, Game, Night view and sRGB modes. Toggling between these modes is easy by simply pressing the first OSD button or directly selecting on the OSD menu.

When one switches the Splendid modes, the monitor automatically adjusts the brightness, contrast and saturation levels to their defaults even if you had previously adjusted them.

Asus VE248Q Review

The Asus VE248Q 24 Inch LED monitor comes with a satisfactory port selection, giving the user power to choose the ports best suited to meet their need. This particular model of the series comes with a VGA , HDMI and Display ports. The HMI port is an excellent choice for TV to PC connections, while the display port makes the best connector for audio and video signals. VGA on the other hand is the oldest and least equipped port, only capable of transiting visual signals at a frequency of 6Hz and a resolution of 1080 pixels. If however this might not be your ideal choice of ports, Asus also offers an alternative selection although for different screen sizes. The 27 Inch ASUS VE278H comes with 2 HDMI ports and a VGA port, shipping also with a HDMI to DVI cable to fill the void that’s left from the absence of a DVI port. The 21 Inch ASUS VE228H on the other hand comes with a HDMI, VGA and DVI port.
