Design and features
Nothing about the Asus VE228H is extreme, it is a decent no frills entry-level monitor built with simplicity in mind. This remarkable monitor comes with a load of neat features, 1080p display, great ergonomic support and plenty of ports to support at least a dual-monitor setup. For me, I spend a good part of my day looking at a monitor so I’m usually very picky with aesthetics display and color of my monitors. Fortunately, the Asus VE228H is hurdled up in an attractive black polished chassis. The material is well polished and as a result, makes the monitor look and feel like a high-end monitor geared for professionals.
Measuring at 2.2 x 20.2 x 12.1 inches and 9.04 pounds, the Asus VE228H fits in as a mid-sized monitor, and as such you won’t have desk space constraints. While it’s always great having a large display with plenty of viewing area, the 21-inches on this babe work just fine. The viewing area is plenty and definitely a good choice for working on multiple page documents and watching movies. Alternatively, if this 21-inch doesn’t make the cut for you, Asus included a 24-inch and 27-inch configuration for a more immersive experience. The one grip we had with this monitor though, was the brightness. It has a max of 250 nits which in dulls down what would have been otherwise bright colored image and video.
TN Panel Display
Despite its basic design, the Asus VE228H offers a few neat touches. The display is Full HD (1920 x 1080p) and comes with 60Hz refresh rate and 5ms response rate. Also, the display runs on a TN panel with above board viewing angles (170°(H)/160°(V)). TN panels are less expensive and offer superior motion handling and grayscale accuracy. But they have poor viewing angles. In-Plane Switching (IPS) displays are considered far better for their wider viewing angles.
On the bright side, monitors on this price range are made for a few users, and because the screen size isn’t too large, the edges aren’t too far either. In this case, images at the edges are not too far away to be distorted or too stretched out. Generally, the Asus VE228H makes a good choice for everyday office use monitor.

A good monitor usually offers an ergonomic stand that can be easily adjusted for maximum comfort. The Asus VE228H has a stand with a few adjustable options, which is quite common for budget monitors on this price range. You can adjust the stand to tilt approximately 20 degrees vertically and 5 degrees horizontally. That aside, the rear and bottom side of the VE228H is home to a number of ports including a VGA, HDMI, DisplayPort and audio and video connectors. If you’re one who enjoys dual monitor setups, these ports should be helpful for an external monitor connection.
Other bells and whistles that come inside the box are:
- DVI Cable-Cables provided for VGA-VGA and DVI-HDMI (computer-to-monitor)
- VGA Cable
- Audio Cable
- Power Cord & Adapter
- Quick Start Guide
- User Manual CD
- Warranty Information Card

Typically, you require fast response display to prevent motion errors and artifacts. The Asus VE228H comes with 5ms response time and 60Hz refresh rate which at times allow blurring on fast-paced gameplay. You require it to be at least 2ms to be capable of running smoothly. Even so, you can still play a few games on this crop of monitor and its affiliate series.
