Design and Features

The ASUS M32CD Desktop is housed in an elegant and modern silver metallic case measuring 6.93 x 16.08 x 14.95 inch (WxDxH) and weighing just over 18 pounds. The overall design and construction is quite professional and high-quality which means the ASUS M32CD will fall right into place in any modern business environment.

This ASUS tower is light and compact enough to allow moving it to wherever we need it. A decently sized office desk can accommodate it and still have room for other peripherals and office material. The front panel on the ASUS M32CD is clean and shiny. We also fell in love with the glowing power button, shiny plastic plates at the top of the tower and the I/O compartment conveniently etched into the front face.

In terms of upgrades, it’s quite easy to pop the lid as you only need to undo a few screws. Under the hood, you find a number of expansion slots on the ASUS M32CD motherboard including space for extra 8Gigs of RAM and even an M.2 slot in case you fancy some fast SSD storage for your office machine.

As with most modern Asus computers, the ASUS M32CD desktop comes with a licensed copy of Windows 10 Home Operating System (OS). It’s not an entirely clean install as Asus pre-installs a few add-ons meant to improve your experience using their machines. These include things like ASUS Sonic Master/wizard and Asus upgrade assistants. We did not find any of the annoying bloatware that normally comes with OEM windows computers on the ASUS M32CD desktop PC.

Input Devices

Asus bundles a free USB keyboard and mouse with the purchase which is a really nice touch. That should definitely save you the time and money you probably would have spent purchasing these two separately.

The keyboard is a normal full-size QWERTY keyboard with butterfly keys. It’s a decent keyboard for normal office work as the keys are adequately spaced out and have decent travel. We averaged 80wpm typing on this keyboard.

The USB mouse is very nice and feels comfortable and light to hold and move around. It has excellent optical tracking and overall accuracy. We had no qualms with them too as they get the work done.

This PC has a decent selection of ports. At the front, you get two USB 3.0 Ports, a 6 in 1 media card reader and a microphone and headphone jack. At the back, you get two more USB 3.0 ports, a USB C 3.1 port, a USB 2.0 port, HDMI and VGA port for display output and the 5.1 channel sound outputs for surround sound output.

The number of ports on the ASUS M32CD is decent and definitely adequate for office work. The media card reader allows loading media directly from your memory cards. It also includes an integrated 24XDVD-RW Drive to allow installing office applications easily as most of them still come on DVD and CD.

Made for the modern office environment, the M32CD does come with both Gigabit Ethernet and inbuilt 802.11ac Wi-Fi

connectivity. A lot of organizations especially small and medium-sized enterprises are moving towards wireless LANs as opposed to the traditional Ethernet powered wired LANs. So, having Wi-Fi is becoming essential in any modern business oriented computer.

First, a rundown of the essential performance components on the ASUS M32CD desktop then we tell you how it performs in a typical office environment. At the heart of this business PC’s performance is, of course, the CPU. The ASUS M32CD desktop is equipped with a 6th Generation Intel Core i5-6400 processor which has 2.7 GHz clock speeds.

This is one of Intel’s most popular Skylake processors mostly installed on business machines due to its multiple cores and multi-tasking/multi-processing prowess. The ASUS M32CD desktop comes with 8GB DDR3 RAM –a decent size to get you by for the normal/typical office configuration. Alternatively, you can go for a 16GB RAM if you’re planning to game anytime soon.

Internal memory is a 1 TB SATA hard disk spinning at 7200RPM. Although not included, you can add your personal touch to this baby by installing up to a max of 256 GB Solid State Drive (SSD) on the expansion slot.

In terms of performance, the M32CD really shines when it comes to handling general productivity workloads like document editing in Microsoft office and common off-the-shelf packages like SAGE, QuickBooks and database management systems. Opening several tabs in chrome does not slow down the ASUS M32CD desktop thanks to its quad-core processor and volatile memory.

The M32CD desktop is the perfect general purpose business-oriented PC. Graphics performance is also above average since the Intel Core i5-6400 processor integrates Intel Integrated 530 HD Graphics. Watching HD movies on Netflix and Amazon is a buttery smooth experience.

ASUS M32CD power supply

We added this small sub-topic to answer the recurring question on the ASUS M32CD power supply. Our unit comes with a 500W power supply but you can get a lower or high variation in the market. If you’re planning to upgrade a few things this unit’s PSU should be the fittest to handle that load.

Our reviewed unit was a decent core i5-6400 processor. But there are other configurations in the market offering a higher performance Core i7 processor. For instance, the Asus M32CD-B14 VivoPC. It’s a state of the art variation of our unit with far better specifications including Intel Core i7-7700 processor. Additionally, there’s a 12GB Memory for multitasking and 128GB Solid State Drive 1TB Hard Drive. If a better graphics card configuration is what you’re looking for, then consider the ASUS VivoPC M32CD-DB53 Desktop PC with Nvidia GeForce 1050 2GB graphics card.

What we liked

  • Reliable day to day performance
  • Latest Skylake architecture
  • Decent graphics card – HD 530 graphics
  • 1 TB HDD 7200 RPM storage
  • In-built wireless system
  • Front facing USB 3.0 ports
  • Great budget price to match
  • Includes warranty

What we didn’t like

  • Lacks a dedicated graphics card
  • Lacks SSD storage – so slow boot speeds.

The ASUS M32CD Desktop ticks all the right boxes when it comes to business-oriented machines. It’s elegantly designed, handsomely equipped and also pocket-friendly. All those aspects favor business owners who would want to purchase several units for their business.

On the other hand, for users with a taste for a more modern machine, check out the ASUS G11CD-WS51 Oculus Ready Gaming Computer (newer model) at Amazon. It sports a similar Core i5-6400 processor with 2.7 GHz processing power (Turbo Boost of up to 3.3 GHz). Also included is an improved memory 8GB DDR4 (2133MHz) and similar 1TB HDD 7200RPM storage. On the bright side, its defining attribute is astounding Nvidia GTX 970 4GB DDR5 graphics card for immersive gaming experience and life-like visuals. Well, it might not get you through AAA games but it should be able to handle them on loe settings
