- The Acer Aspire TC-780-AMZKi5 Desktop | Amazon doesn’t brag of being a powerhouse, but its got enough power under the hood to get work done. It is ideally the go-to-desktop for anyone whose in the market for a desktop computer that’ll deliver sufficiently well on a budget, and it receives a thumbs up from us.
DESIGN AND FEATURES
The Acer Aspire doesn’t brag of a splurge of impressive design features or hardware to go with. It design is pretty basic and for the price, it makes a good case compared to other desktops in its wake. If you value a PC with subdued, austere designs over those with intergalactic out of the world themes, this desktop here does it all and more. The whole chassis is made of black plastic and an all round moderate sized and quality chassis, which in my opinion helps bring down the costs relatively.
It compares with its competition in the following way: The Lenovo Ideacentre 300 Desktop 90DA00LPUS Check at Amazon measures 16.14 x 6.3 x 13.98 inches (HWD). and is a little svelte compared to the Acer Aspire TC-780. The CYBERPOWERPC Gamer Xtreme VR GXiVR8020A2 Desktop Check at Amazon shares similar specifications but is has a larger footprint (20.16 x 9.25 21.57 inches (HWD) inches) and costs more.
I wouldn’t call the port system on the Acer Aspire TC-780 the best, nor would I consider it slack. Its falls right in the middle in that regard. It lacks a USB Type-C or Thunderbolt port, but for the price, I consider what it has is pretty solid. It has ports covering video (HDMI and VGA housed at the rear) and seven other USB ports. There are three USB 3.0 ports (color coded in blue), two at the front and a single one at the rear. The rest is a USB 2.0 ports located at the back.
Other connectivity options include the Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0. Acer also included a DVD burner and SD- card (supports SD type cards).
The Acer Aspire works with a fairly non-eccentric quad-core Intel Core i5-7400 with a 3.0 GHz speed capable of handling your home and office tasks. The processor handles demanding tasks too with a brief boost up to 3.5 GHz. The Acer Aspire TC-780 also sports two DDR4 2400MHz RAMs which makes a cumulative of 8 GB. In comparison, the Acer Aspire TC-780-UR12 Desktop Check at Amazon offers double the memory capacity (16GB) and storage capactity (2TB HDD). The whole system relies and is connected to the Acer Aspire TC-780-AMZKi5 motherboard. The board comes fitted with a 1151 processor socket and an Intel H110 Chipset. Don’t worry if you don’t understand all that, simply put, the desktop has a decent motherboard that works perfectly for its category.
If you’re a power hog, you can replace the current memory chips with up to 16GB individual ones. And you’ll end up with a total of 32 GB fit to handle any multitasking task you might throw at it. Memory aside, there is also 2 TB of hard drive storage available for data, photos or videos you may want to save. This system lacks SSD storage but there is an M.2 slot which can be used to handle that.
Acer did not spend a dime towards acquiring a dedicated graphics unit which probably they did as a means to an end; as a shortcut to cut down on the price. The Acer Aspire features the integrated HD 630 graphics unit, which means you won’t be able to handle recent triple A titles on high-resolution like the avid gamer does. But you could be able to play a few games albeit on low to medium presets. If that doesn’t sit well with you, there is a free PCI-e x16 slot for all those who appreciate DIY installation. Sure, the recently released GPU Nvidia GeForce 1050 Ti is a great choice for this desktop should you opt to upgrade, but if you had the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080, it would be best. The only limiting factor would be the PSU which limits power consumption down to 300W.
